Love, Sex, and the Sense of Smell

With this being the romance week of the year it is fitting to talk about the effect scents have on the sexual appeal. Increasing libido is right under your nose!

When it comes to sex and mating, the most important organ may be our sense of smell. Decades of research demonstrates that in our mating behavior, humans tend to follow their noses.

Aromas, fragrances and scents have been used for centuries to enhance the experience of seduction and lovemaking. Here are some tips - read more…..

“The sense of smell in the body is linked to the part of the brain that handles emotions and feelings… When you associate a smell with an erotic feeling, that smell can stimulate a sexual response.”

“According to Harvard research, scents seem to be responsible for sexual responses more than any other sense in the body. That means you might look good, but what you smell like is even more important.”

“Smells that make people feel good about themselves may make them feel sexier and hornier. They may also lower inhibitions!”

“Wearing a pleasant perfume or cologne has been proven to increase your overall attractiveness to the opposite sex. Even those what were considered average in terms of their looks have scored higher in tests when given a pleasing scent to wear.”

In a test conducted by the Smell & Taste treatment center - the male sexual response with increased blood flow increased 40% with the fragrances of lavender and pumpkin pie.

Women’s sensitivity to musk, an ingredient commonly used in colognes/perfumes, is 1,000 times greater than men’s. Scents containing musk are therefore more likely to arouse a woman. Sexy perfumes containing musk are said to be much more likely to arouse the woman wearing them to any potential male partners. By making the woman feel more sensual, the perfume may affect her behavior and thus directly increase her attractiveness. Musk is a potent scent that can increase sexual response in both men and women.

Some additional scents that had positive sexual responses were black licorice, cinnamons, and vanilla.

Adding scents to sex can change the overall experience, before and during. Both men and women have reported a more intense experience when they’ve worn a favorite cologne or perfume. It helps them relax and feel attractive, which allows their partner to feel attractive to them. Burning scented candles with exotic fragrances can impact the mood and receptivity.

Here’s an easy and fun method to increase the libido and intensify orgasm:

Light scented candles to set the mood… Then take turns blindfolding each other having them smell citrus fruits, spices, and vanilla.
