What mood do you want to create in your office?
Scents are strongly related to emotions and memory. The response to scent is so strong that it can alter moods – even increase productivity and improve the concentration, motivation, and creativity of your personnel. People can't concentrate because they were distracted by a scent that was unappealing. Keeping good fragrances around can help. Here are some examples:
Citrus scents, such as orange and lemon, are energizing and invigorating - lifting your mood. Mix citrus with some florals and you have a positive emotion inducer!
Lavender – may improve mood and soothe anxiety. The university of Miami School of Medicine reported that smelling lavender “had a significant transient effect on improving mood, making people feel more relaxed, and performing math computations faster”.
Sage– helps with stress relief!
Licorice - research from the Smell and Taste treatment center found that smelling licorice makes people happier and puts patients in a mellow mood! Twizzlers anyone?
People exposed to a peppermint scent stayed awake longer, and ones given periodic doses of peppermint smells performed better on tasks requiring a high level of concentration.
Scents are also tied to the memories we cherish! Some scents like Mediterranean breeze, or sweet vanilla caramel, fresh baked cookies, and baby powder can bring you back to the memories where you smelled those fragrances and can put a smile on your face.
Uplift and make your workplace happier and more productive!
